About Panamá

Panama is world-famous for its 48-mile canal that connects the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean. Each year, over a million people visit the canal and are able to witness this engineering marvel at work. Panama is very proud to have this magnificent creation operating 365 days a year, enabling the world’s cargo to be shipped efficiently and safely to new destinations.

Three million years ago, the Isthmus of Panama emerged from the sea and changed the world forever. How to get to Panama City

Panama is a cosmopolitan, dynamic city, where the modern and the traditional come together to create a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere. Here you can walk on the Cinta Costera and contemplate the beauty of the modern city, and you can discover the past and have fun at the Old Town of the capital city. The Panama Canal will amaze you with its engineering and its relevance in the global economy. If you are looking to make your purchases, Panama offers a wide range of shopping centers, with excellent offers on their merchandise.

Panama is well connected with destinations in North and South America, the Caribbean, and parts of Western Europe. Travelers coming from Asia, Africa, Australia, or Eastern Europe will likely need to change planes/airlines at least once.

Most travelers will fly into Tocumen International Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional de Tocumen), Panama’s main international airport. It is 25 kilometers (15 mi) east of downtown Panama City and is fairly modern and convenient. It has a small domestic terminal, as well as some tourist services, including ATP booths, ATMs and one bank. Its airport code is PTY.

There is a taxi stand in the airport departure area once you pass through Customs. The 30-minute taxi ride from Tocumen Airport to Panama City can cost you around $ 20. The official rate is $ 10.00 per person if you share the taxi with four passengers, $ 14.00 per person if you share it with two passengers and $ 25.00 per private taxi.
There are buses but they do not pass near the terminal and the bus stop is a considerable distance away on foot. It is not advisable to take a bus.
